We really experienced the difference between our ship and other ships when
we docked in port. It Puerto Rico we were docked next to the Royal
Caribbean Navigator of the Seas. That ship is a monster. From
the upper deck of our ship we still were looking up four decks to the top of
the Navigator. More interesting was looking at the Carnival Glory which we
encountered at St. Martin. We were able to actually see the difference
between the widths of the two ships when we went on-shore. The Glory
is a big ship as this picture shows, but what was more interesting was the demographics of the
ships. We had a total of 44 kids who could be in the children's
programs. The Glory had over 10 times that number. When we spoke
to a crewmember on the Glory we were informed that the previous week there
were over 2000 kids on the Glory.

From our top deck I took a picture of the side of the Glory. While
I could have backed off and taken a picture of more of the ship, I decided to
take a slightly zoomed in picture of the balconies. There were five
floors of balcony suites going the length of the ship. Impressive and
quite interesting looking until you realize the number of rooms (and kids!)
that represents.
| When we got back on board our ship after a busy day
ashore, we were greeted by a crewmember handing out cold towels for us.
Passengers on the Glory received a personal greeting from Fun Ship
Freddy. I was negligent about getting Freddy's picture but I have
extracted a picture taken by another cruiser. |

Boarding the two ships was a bit different also.
As these pictures show, there were several boarding ramps into the
Glory, in part a necessity due to the number of people the ship holds.
We only had one ramp for boarding. Also note the golf cart at the
Century. It was used to haul people back to the ship who were too
tired to walk! |
| I was not allowed to photograph the boarding area of the
Century so no pictures of the crewmember giving out towels. I did
get a picture of the boarding area when it was not being used (we were
at sea at the time and the area was closed up). The new electronic
scan devices are interesting. When we first boarded, a picture was
taken of us. subsequent boardings we scanned our card and our
picture was displayed to the crewmember behind the security device.
Cruise ships are not as bad as airports, thankgoodness! |
