The Kitchen

The first day on board the ship, I inquired to the possibility of seeing and getting a few pictures of the engine room and the bridge.  No luck.  However, I was offered a tour of the kitchen which I happily accepted.

Commentary to follow, for now, here are the pictures.

On the right is the first stage in building some of the apetizers.  I can't remember what is happening in the picture on the left.

Every night we had a basket of bread on the table. Here is one of the few machines used to cut the hundreds of loaves of bread.

The work in the kitchen was at a slow point when we had our tour.  Even so, there was a crew making rolls and the gentleman on the right was prepping salads.

The chefs were making the soup for the next day while we were in the kitchen as well as prepping the soup for that night.  With three soups every day, soups are like everything else on the ship, a large scale production.  On the right, is the initial view of the leek soup before cooking.  It was delicious (I had to have it for supper the next night)

The salads being made at the start of the kitchen tour are beginning to pile up on the plates.

There is a big prominent clock where everyone can see what time it is.  I had to take this picture.

Two of the four escalators in the ship are in the kitchen to get the waiters from the kitchen to the upper level of the Grand Restaurant.  Most people don't ever think how many trips are needed from the kitchen up to the upper floor.  Now you know why your waiter is never winded!
