The big question parents ask is whether or not their kids will have fun on a
Celebrity ship. Celebrity is not Disney nor Carnival -both of which have
nonstop mega-activities for kids- but there is plenty for the kids to do.
But like everything else with cruising, one of the major factors that
influences the number of kid activities is the number of kids. On our
cruise there were only 44 kids and most of them were involved in activities
with their families. There were at most half a dozen kids involved
from the times I saw them. In fact, most of the staff working with the kids
commented on how quiet the Kids Zone was. The staff
was available for activities, the limiting factor was the number of kids. According to the staff members I spoke to, during the summer months and around the holidays the number of kids increases dramatically to several hundred. During the summer there are usually about 450 kids on the ship each week. While this may seem like a lot, compare this to the Carnival Glory that we kept running into in port. Admittedly the Glory has about twice as many passengers as the Century, but even in late September there were over 500 kids on board during our cruise week. Apparently the number tops two thousand during the summer months. Naturally many activities are suitable for both kids and adults. It was quite interesting the number of children who were at formal dining. No problem for the adults and the kids seemed to love dressing up and being treated as adults for a few hours. There was one little gentleman who looked so cute, I had to take his and include it on the guest page. There are numerous planned activities for kids. I grabbed the sheet of activities for one day for three of the four age groups. I grabbed these from the front desk and missed the 7-9 activities. Shipmates (3-6)
and the full Cadet program for kids age 7 to 9 Note on the back page of the first day's schedule there is an interesting note describing how Celebrity expects kids to behave on the cruise. If anyone doubts that the official policy is that kids are welcome but are expected to behave, this should put that fear to rest! Notice how Celebrity does not talk down to the kids but treats them as if they are responsible people. |
